A Dog Named Bob

One upon a time, there lived a dog named Bob. Every day, Bob woke up at sunrise, had his full of tasty bones, barked, chased cats, played until dark and slept. Bob was unhappy. He was feeling bored and down from his routine living. So Bob thought that he desperately needed a vacation and decided to go on a small trip and discover a new land. Excitedly, Bob googled for some good places to visit. He was searching for a new, unconditional, memorable place. The search retrieved many results, but one has captured Bob’s attention with its distinctive description which read: “You have been chosen by fate. Join us at BlueJay Land for a life changing experience. We promise you a memorable vacation. This is your call to make a difference. Do not miss your chance. Call now to arrange your trip.” Bob hurriedly reached out for his iPhone muttering, BlueJay Land here I come…

Blue welcomed Bob to the land. Blue was a fine looking bluejay, in his mid-thirties, Bob guessed, and who had a warm smile that did not part his face. “Welcome to BlueJay Land. I will be your trip adviser throughout your stay here, and we shall begin with a small land tour,” Blue explained. “I am sure you will be having lots of inquiries. Feel free to interrupt and share your thoughts any time,” he added.

BlueJay was a small land that you could tour twice in an hour! Bob was starting to have second thoughts of whether he decided right by coming here for a 3 day vacation. Nevertheless, Bob was surprised to find that the land was over crowded with tourists of all kinds; he could spot fellow dogs, birds, frogs, deer, tigers, lions, turtles, and even cats! They all seemed busy working! What is this?! Bob was confused. He turned to Blue and said apologetically:

“Sorry dude, but I think I have picked the wrong destination for vacation. I think I will turn back home now.”

“Why are you here Bob? What is it that you’re looking for?” inquired Blue.

“Looking for an escape from my daily routine,” replied Bob.

“Then you have chosen right,” assured Blue. “All you need is a plate, chocolate syrup, and blue ink, and you may then get started working like the rest of us here,” he added.

Bob looked puzzled. He had no clue what that crazy bluejay meant. Nonetheless, before he could utter another word, Blue started explaining: “Here, at BlueJay Land we aim to draw a smile on little sad faces. Are you aware of the number of homeless children around the world? Can you guess the number of children out there who were suddenly forced to leave their homes and toys behind and found themselves running away from a brutal war of which they are innocent and clueless.”

“And we are gonna fix all that with a plate, chocolate syrup, and blue ink?” Bob asked ironically.

“We might not be able to make things perfectly right again. However, with a small gesture, we may be able to draw a smile back on their faces and help them forget their tragic experience for some time.” Blue replied. “All these visitors you see are contributors to our project. They use the syrup to bake a delicious chocolate cake, place it on a decorated colorful plate, and send it out to a child’s mailbox address which they randomly choose, along with a letter of sweet words, if you are still wondering what the ink is for, aiming to lighten up a child’s day….”

On the other side of the globe, Farah received a delicious chocolate cake with the following note: “Someone out there has thought of you and would like to draw a smile on your pretty face with this little gesture. Love, Bob.”

Farah smiled, and so did Bob. Relaxing in his red dog house, Bob knew that his life was positively transformed now that he has experienced the joy of giving.

Daily Prompt: A Bird, A Plane, You!

p1_united_we_stand3
If I could speak and understand any language…

Spells of love on every land I shall cast,

Spells of evil that I overhear I shall undo,

Words of peace I shall spread in all hearts,

One for all, all for one in all languages I shall cry,

The rise of a united nation I shall hope to witness.

Daily Prompt: Inside the Actor’s Studio

The Daily Prompt for today is:  On the interview show Inside the Actors’ Studio, host James Lipton asks each of his guests the same ten questions. What are your responses?

Lucky me, I’m one of the guests and there the interview goes:

1. What is your favorite word?
“Hope”, for what is life worth without hope. People may have different goals in life, depending on their age, education or social status; nevertheless, hope in pursing or achieving these goals is the common factor that makes all people go on and strive to live no matter how harsh life might get at them sometimes.

2. What is your least favorite word?
“Goodbye”. It is always hard to say goodbye.

3. What turns you on creatively, spiritually or emotionally?
A simple detail that may pass during my every day life or a scene in the street can spark up an idea in my mind and get me creative. Listening to verses from a holy book or to an impressive lecture about God and life can turn me on spiritually. A simple word said tenderly or appreciatively, or simply a look of love is enough to turn me on emotionally.

4. What turns you off?
Negativity and negative people.

5. What is your favorite curse word?
LOL. I won’t say I’m an angel who doesn’t curse. I might curse if things go so wrong and I lose it, but I don’t like it and try to hold myself from uttering the words, so definitely no favorite curse words for me 😀

6. What sound or noise do you love?
Rain. The sound, view and smell of rain. It calms me down.

7. What sound or noise do you hate?
Any loud or disturbing noise, traffic among them.

8. What profession other than your own would you like to attempt?
Fashion and Makeup Consultant. I love beauty, and I love to feel beautiful and make others feel beautiful and good about themselves too. It would give me self-satisfaction to see a smile on someone’s face and know that I have drawn it.

9. What profession would you not like to do?
I’ve never really liked politics, and I’m pretty much sure I do not possess a political mind.

10. If Heaven exists, what would you like to hear God say when you arrive at the Pearly Gates?
Welcome Lara. You’ve earned it 🙂

Daily Prompt: Success

The daily prompt for today is about success. It asks us to tell about a time where everything we’d hoped would happen actually did.

magic wand

Success… the “feel-good” pill. Just saying the word out loud draws a smile on my face.
What is this magic pill? What does it take to be successful?
Since I was young, I heard people labelling me as successful. She is smart ; she’s an honors list student…they even predicted a successful future for me; and here they come today to confirm their predictions for me with all their “didn’t we tell you?” phrases.
Despite all, I always wondered..Is that all? Is holding a degree and attaining a good career what makes one successful? Honestly, I’ve always believed that magic is much bigger than that. Lucky me, one day has come where I was able to experience success, and yes.. it was magical indeed.

My job is mostly administrative and operational. Thankfully, I have a good job and I like it; yet I never felt that passionate about it. I attained my Master’s degree while I was working. Throughout my Master’s years and all the research papers that it entailed, I discovered that I was actually inclined to research and the academic field. Unfortunately, I was at a stage where shifting my career was not possible. Days passed, I finished my degree, continued with my current career and my involvement in the academic track remained a hope in my deep subconscious. I stood all surprised when my boss approached me last year and asked for my contribution to an academic paper on a training project that I was heavily involved in. Better yet, I was assigned as the paper’s  first author. I saw the sparkles coming out from the wizard’s magic wand (And can you guess who’s the wizard in my story? True.. my boss 🙂 ). This was my opportunity to step into the academic field.

Now that I’ve lived it, I can surely define success to you. Passion is the keyword. Success is achieving in something you are passionate about. Hope everyone gets the opportunity to attain success and feel its magic 🙂
